Our lamps are primarily formed of cylindrical envelopes of clear silica glass, or occasionally borosilicate for low-power applications. Quartz is widely used because to its superior mechanical and thermal properties. It is feasible to get significant energy bursts and high average power. It is composed of silica SiO2 in its native amorphous condition. Borosilicate glass is commonly used in “photoflashtubes” where high power densities are not required. This glass can be utilised at temperatures up to 300°C with proper forced air conditioning.
